A transfer can appear reliable while products are touching, because the following pack pushes the leading pack across the gap. The same arrangement may stall when the last product of a batch arrives alone. Test isolated products as well as a full stream before approving a transfer plate or conveyor connection.
Observe where support is lost and whether the product keeps moving without help from the queue behind it. Record the product's base contact area, direction of travel, both conveyor heights and the speeds on either side. Include light or flexible packs and the format with the shortest stable base. Keep hands away from the running transfer and use an unobstructed video view for diagnosis.
If the transfer relies on crowding, ask whether a smaller end roller, a powered transfer or a different transfer geometry is appropriate. A passive plate can be useful where controlled back pressure is acceptable, but it is not automatically suitable for isolated products. Repeat the check during startup, batch end and restart. This helps distinguish a gap problem from a control sequence that releases products without enough motion to cross it.
Earlier packs may have crossed using pressure from the queue behind them. Test whether an isolated pack can cross using its own driven motion.
When an isolated or unstable product cannot reliably cross a passive gap and the application cannot depend on following-product pressure.
